LOCK & KEY CHARDONNAY; delivering exceptional value for money.
The Lock & Key Chardonnay is made from fruit grown at our mature, vineyard in Tumbarumba, Southern NSW. Planted in 1993, the vineyard comes highly regarded, largely due to the vast array of medal winning wines it has produced over the years.
On mainland Australia there are few places that can consistently grow pure, expressive Chardonnay. Due to the ultra-cool climate and high altitude vineyards in the Tumbarumba region, we are one of the few places that can.
“Well balanced.. melon, limes, stone fruit.. Complex and true to the region and variety.”

Technical & Tasting Notes
VITICULTURE
The fruit was harvested at two stages of ripeness. The first pick provided grapefruit and citrus character with zingy acidity while the second contributed power and length.
WINE MAKING
100% free-run juice, partially barrel fermented with partial batonage.
TASTING NOTES
The palate is long and elegant with cool climate zesty lemon and ripe mouth-watering stone fruits knitting in neatly with subtle toasty French oak. A wine of generous weight and good length.
Reviews
Vintage 2018
“The wine is elegantly composed and expressed on the nose showing nectarine, lemon peel, nougat and hazelnut characters, followed by a juicy palate that is focused and finely textured. It is restrained and refined with lovely fruit purity, wonderfully complemented by creamy mouthfeel and bright acidity.” – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
“Well balanced mixture of melon, limes, stone fruit burst in the mouth, balanced by good oak integration along with a crisp acid finish. Complex and true to the region and variety.” – Stephen Read, Wine Matrix
Vintage 2017
“Youthfully charming and fragrant, the bouquet shows grapefruit, apple, fig and lemon peel characters. The palate is juicy and attractively rounded, displaying elegant texture and bright acidity, brilliantly supported by vibrant acidity. A delicately poised chardonnay.” – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Vintage 2016
“… It has exceptional length, and it hits the bullseye of the fruit flavour spectrum expected of well grown Tumbarumba fruit.” – James Halliday, Wine Companion
“..stone-fruit-like varietal flavour, which it has in abundance. But the high acidity of the cool climate and partial barrel fermentation add silky texture, backbone and dazzling refreshment to a most delightful drink.” – Chris Shanahan
Vintage 2014
“Bright straw green; classic grapefruit and white peach aromas and flavours; particularly good length, likewise oak balance and integration, finished with crisp acidity. Exceptional bargain.” – James Halliday, Wine Companion
